Michigan tour prepares for eighth season
Written by Dave Harrison
May 26, 2011 — The Michigan Garden Plant Tour into its eighth year of highlighting leading young plant producers of ornamentals and Michigan State University.

Growers, landscapers and garden centre operators can visit the seven participating sites during a two-week period (August 1-12).

4153_c._raker_and_sons_erik_runkleExpect to see impressive displays of flowering plant material, including all of the commercial brands of annuals, perennials and shrubs. This is a terrific way to observe plant performance at different locations and grown under various conditions, both in the ground and in containers.

The tour is free, but growers would appreciate a call ahead to know you’ll be coming.

Plan to also attend the MSU Plant Trial Field Day in the school's horticulture gardens on Tuesday, Aug. 9. You’ll hear the latest on new annuals and perennials, see unbiased garden performance of ornamentals, and hear directly from many of the breeding companies about their favourite plants. More details will follow soon on how to register for this event.

For more information on the Michigan Garden Plant Tour, contact coordinators Jennifer Sweet (517-355-5191, ext. 1339) or Erik Runkle (517-355-5191, ext. 1350).
