Vanderhout on OFVGA board
Written by Dave Harrison
Feb. 18, 2011 – Jan Vanderhout of Beverly Greenhouses Ltd. in Waterdown has been elected to the board of the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association (OFVGA).

He represents the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers association.

Meaford-area apple grower Brian Gilroy is OFVGA chairperson. “I look forward to being able to continue our work on key issues facing growers, such as the implementation of a sustainable risk management program for the horticulture sector,” says Gilroy.

Gilroy has been involved with the OFVGA since 1990. He is also chair of the Ontario Apple Growers.

Other new board members are Fred Meyers (tender fruit) and Mary Shabatura (fresh vegetable-other). Jason Ryder, who previously represented fresh vegetable (other) on the Board, has assumed the director seat for asparagus for the upcoming year.

The OFVGA is the voice of Ontario’s 7,500 fruit, vegetable and greenhouse producers on issues affecting the horticulture sector.
