Ontario IPM workshop date change
Written by Dave Harrison
Dec. 20, 2010, Vineland, ON – A previously announced one-day workshop on developing and implementing a greenhouse IPM program will now be held in February in the Niagara region. It had previously been tentatively planned for late January.

The workshop is being hosted by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, in conjunction with Flowers Canada Growers and the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre. It will be held Feb. 24 at Rittenhouse Hall in the OMAFRA Advisory Services Building at Vineland Station, running from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration is $75 ($66.37 plus $8.63 HST), and includes lunch, coffee, hand lens, workbook and resource information. PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN THE DATE FROM PREVIOUS STORIES POSTED HERE ONLINE (NOV. 12) AND IN OUR DECEMBER EDITION.

The format of the workshop will be a little different from previous years where the workshop covered as much as possible in terms of major pests and diseases. The focus this year will be on pests and diseases of spring crops, and it's hoped this approach will ensure more time can be spent on the problems growers will be facing in the coming months.

These workshops have been very successful in the past to the point where the majority of the industry is now using IPM.

The workshop is designed to assist growers wishing to implement an IPM program or further develop existing programs. The workshop is a hands-on exercise in how to set up an IPM program, and includes presentations on IPM basics, pest biology and identification, monitoring, biological control, disease IPM, and the “nuts and bolts” of getting started.
