Conference marks end of two eras
Written by Dave Harrison
Nov. 10, 2010, Toronto – It was the end of two eras with this year’s Canadian Greenhouse Conference.

It was announced during an exhibitors’ meeting that the show is moving to the new Niagara Falls Convention Centre beginning with the 2011 edition being held Oct. 5-6.

The CGC has been held at the International Centre, near the Toronto International airport, since 2001. Before that, it had been held at the University of Guelph since its inception in 1979.

The conference is traditionally held the Wednesday and Thursday of the week prior to the Canadian Thanksgiving in October. It has grown to 200 exhibitors and attracts some 2,500 attendees.

In addition to being housed in state-of-the-art convention facilities in one of North America’s leading tourist destinations, the move will place the conference within a hub of hotels and restaurants, all within easy walking distance. The Niagara region is also home to one of the largest concentrations of greenhouse production in North America.

This year’s show was also a chance for the industry to say thanks to longtime conference coordinator Donna Cobbledick, who is stepping down to spend more time with her family, and in particular her grandchildren. (Triplets born last summer are the latest additions to the family!)

Cobbledick has been associated with the CGC since 1987. Her husband, Bob, will continue to serve as trade show manager, helping provide continuity as new coordinator Carol Pupo settles into the position. Also assisting is sales manager Pete Hendriksen.

For more on Donna Cobbledick’s career with the CGC, visit the digital edition of the 2010 CGC Show Guide posted on our website at www.greenhousecanada.com, or the conference website at www.canadiangreenhouseconference.com . The feature is on page 8.
