Written by Dave Harrison
Oct. 20, 2010, Houthalen, Belgium – Floralife, Inc., a leader in postharvest fresh cut flower products for more than 70 years, has opened a manufacturing site in Belgium to better serve its customers throughout Europe.

Celebrating the opening of a new manufacturing in Belgium to better serve European customers of Floralife® brand postharvest products are (from left to right): Chris Martens, managing director, Smithers-Oasis Belgium; Eduard Kremer, vice-president, Smithers-Oasis Central and Eastern European Operations; and Robin Kilbride, president and chief operating officer, Smithers-Oasis Company.
The new manufacturing facility is located in part of the existing sister company operating unit of Smithers-Oasis Belgium in Houthalen, whose parent company is Smithers-Oasis headquartered in the United States.

At the Belgium facility, Floralife will manufacture its product line under the Floralife® brand, including: Floralife® 100 Clear Hydrating Solution, Floralife® 200/ 2X Ultra Clear Storage Solution, Floralife® 300 Vase Solution and Floralife® Flower Food sachets. Floralife markets these and many other postharvest products to supermarket and mass market stores, floral wholesalers, and retail floral shops worldwide.

Smithers-Oasis acquired Floralife, Inc. in 2007, which offered great synergies between the two organizations. Smithers-Oasis invented floral foam and Floralife invented flower food, both of which revolutionized the floral industry. Today, these two companies together can touch every flower from harvest to the end customer on a worldwide basis.
