MicroFIT solar applications 'grandfathered'

Aug. 16, 2010, Guelph, Ont. – Last Friday’s (Aug. 13) announcement to grandfather all microFIT solar applications received by the Ontario Power Authority before noon July 2, and delay the domestic content on those installations, was well received by Ag Energy Co-operative.

“It is a fair decision to not retroactively penalize applicants with a lower price offering and a tight timeline for connection,” said CEO Rose Gage. “This is a reasonable result for all parties that invested significant money and effort, including integrators and the incoming supply chain. This moves Ontario forward with its commitment to sustainable, clean energy solutions.”

Ag Energy is very appreciative of all those who responded to the various levels and forms of government over the last month. “We asked for an acceptable solution and that is what we received,” said Gage.

Ag Energy worked closely with the Ontario Federation of Agriculture to seek the changes.

Ag Energy Co-operative is an independent, farmer-owned co-operative formed in 1988 to provide energy products and services to its members and customers within Ontario agriculture. It represents half of the natural gas and one-third of the electricity consumed by Ontario agriculture.
