Burpee support for vegetable gardeners
Written by Dave Harrison
Aug. 17, West Chicago, IL – Home gardeners looking to educate themselves on growing their own vegetables can turn to Burpee Home Gardens® for the answers they seek. Whether in print or online, the latest resources and informational tools from Burpee are keeping a new generation of home vegetable gardeners in-the-know. Some of these new resources include Garden Fresh, a free gardening guide booklet, as well as dedicated online social media interaction that let Burpee Home Gardens® connect with home vegetable gardeners.

“As more home gardeners look to plant vegetables and herbs this spring, their search for advice, discussion and overall gardening information grows as well,” says Jessie Atchison, brand manager for Burpee Home Gardens. “The Burpee Home Gardens team has positioned itself to help its core consumer – new and novice home vegetable gardeners – with the answers they need in the formats they prefer.

Garden Fresh is a four-colour, 32-page booklet from Burpee Home Gardens that contains information on virtually every aspect of how to start, maintain and build a home vegetable garden. From the planning stages to harvest and beyond, Garden Fresh helps maximize gardening success. It is mailed out free to those who sign up at the Burpee website www.BurpeeHomeGardens.com, and is an invaluable starting point for new vegetable gardeners.

The consumer search for vegetable information continues online at social media and micro-blog sites, such as Facebook and Twitter. Here Burpee Home Gardens connects with consumers in real-time settings. At www.Facebook.com/BurpeeHomeGardens, visitors can ask questions, view photo albums filled with sponsored Burpee events, and get updates on vegetable varieties and gardening help. On Twitter, @BurpeeHG “tweets” useful links, directing more followers to the wealth of knowledge located at the Burpee website.

Fueling the online social content is the new Burpee Home Gardens Blog, where key team experts can offer vegetable gardening advice and solicit feedback from readers. A specially selected group of novice gardeners have been recruited to post their gardening adventures through www.BurpeeHomeGardens.com/blog, where readers can follow their progress and learn from their journey from planting to harvest.

Burpee Home Gardens® is the result of a partnership between Ball Horticultural Company and W. Atlee Burpee. It is a new program of garden-ready vegetable and herb plants available nationally at retail garden centers in Spring 2010. Backed by the 125-year history of Burpee, the first name in home gardening, Burpee Home Gardens provides gardeners with time-tested varieties and information, ideas and inspiration for success.
