April 1, 2010, Naaldwijk, the Netherlands – The world’s longest
plant trough was planted in late March in the biggest greenhouse horticulture
region in the Netherlands.
The plant trough is 1,000 metres long and can be seen
alongside the auction route in Westland until Sept. 18. The plant trough will
be filled with various types of spring flowers, such as violets, and annual
summer flowers. The aim is to achieve an entry in the Guinness Book of World
Records by beating the current record for the “Worlds Longest Plantpot.” The
record dates from May 2008 and is held by the Austrian village of Donnersbach,
with a length of 447.58 metres.
The longest plant trough is an initiative of the
Lentiz Flora College in Naaldwijk. The “opening day” of the plant trough
coincided with National Volunteers Day, to which the students wanted to draw
attention.
