‘First Frost’ named Hosta Of The Year
Written by Dave Harrison

first_frost_hostaMarch 31, 2010 – The American Hosta Growers Association has selected ‘First Frost’ as its Hosta Of The Year for 2010.

This medium-size variety (16" x 34") is a frosty white-edged sport of ‘Halcyon.’ The blue leaves emerge with a wide margin, similar to the centre of ‘June,’ another ‘Halcyon’ sport and 2001 Hosta Of The Year.

It has irregular, yellow margins that turn white in the summer.

'First Frost' has excellent colour and habit, and will look unblemished in the garden until the “first frost.”
