CEAC: Growing solutions for tomorrow
Written by Dave Harrison

March 23, 2010, Tucson, AZ – The University of Arizona’s Controlled Environment Agriculture Centre presents Growing Solutions for Tomorrow, meeting today’s public demand for sustainable and economical food production. Beginning April 5th and continuing through April 9th, participants will learn the key elements and many of the finer points of growing fruits and vegetables in high and low technology greenhouses.

Whether for commercial or personal production, controlled environment agriculture makes locally grown food a reality. Reducing the time between harvest and consumption produces better food quality. Can food be produced on rooftops and vacant city lots? Should high schools implement greenhouses into their science curricula? Find out as Jenn Nelkin of Gotham Greens, a company based in New York City (providing premium quality, pesticide-free vegetables and herbs grown in rooftop greenhouses using renewable energy and captured rainwater) presents “Getting Started in Urban Farming: Advantages and Challenges,” and Tim Blank, from Future Growing, LLC discusses “Bringing the Farm to the City: from Rooftops to Restaurants.”

For the complete short course itinerary, including speakers, topics, demonstrations, workshops and field trips, view the website http://ag.arizona.edu/ceac and navigate to “click here for more information” under the greenhouse short course section.
