Green for Life Garden at Canada Blooms
Written by Dave Harrison
March 11, 2010, Toronto – Visitors to Canada Blooms should be sure to check out the 5,300-square-foot Green for Life garden, the largest project ever built by members of the Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association. More than 40 companies have come together from across Ontario with a unified and passionate vision to educate and inspire garden enthusiasts.

Canada Blooms  will be held March 17 - 21 at the Direct Energy Centre at Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto. This year's theme is, "Passions."

The Green for Life garden features a sky-high waterfall, spectacular plants, unique hardscaping materials and superb craftsmanship. When completed, the creation of this green oasis will have taken over 160 hours of work, including more than $50,000 worth of donated labour and $60,000 of materials donated by industry and community members.

“It is not just the magnitude of the garden that is inspiring, but also the passion and dedication displayed by the industry and community members who have volunteered both their time and resources to make this vision a reality,” said Denis Flanagan, public relations manager for Landscape Ontario. “Their contributions to the success of this project exemplify what Landscape Ontario’s Green for Life project stands for.”

Landscape Ontario embraces many horticultural specialties, from contracting to nursery growing to garden centre retailing. Its member companies range from family businesses to large corporations – all dedicated to sharing the joys of horticulture. Landscape Ontario’s public outreach program, Green for Life, promotes horticulture’s beauty, health and environmental benefits.

Canada Blooms visitors who pick up a copy of the official show guide can begin planning their garden beds and spring projects. Included with the show guide is a special edition of Garden Inspiration, filled with award-winning landscape ideas and new plant varieties for 2010. Whether visitors want to do-it-themselves or have their homes designed and landscaped by a professional, this publication will be an invaluable resource.

Additional information for designing landscapes to selecting plants, how to articles and a “ask the expert” section are featured at www.landscapeontario.com and serves as a year round source for gardening information.
