Oct. 27, 2009, Moncton, N.B. – HortEast is a one-of-a-kind event for the horticulture industry in Atlantic Canada, offering networking opportunities, tours, workshops, new products, a trade show and seminars.  

hort_east_talksOct. 27, 2009, Moncton, N.B. – HortEast is a one-of-a-kind event for the horticulture industry in Atlantic Canada, offering networking opportunities, tours, workshops, new products, a trade show and seminars.

It will be held Nov. 23-25 at the Moncton Coliseum.

Noted horticulturist Paul Zammit is among this year’s speakers. His talk is sponsored by Greenhouse Canada and Canadian Garden Centre magazines. Zammit is a graduate of the University of Guelph and is the director of horticulture at the Toronto Botanical Garden. He previously worked at Plant World, a large retail garden centre where he was the perennial department manager for almost two decades. He will be speaking on Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., on “Perennial Retailing,” and from 4 to 5 p.m. on “Container Gardening – Four Seasons of Interest.”

Keynote speaker Jim Paluch, who has offered a series of free webinars leading up to the show, will help launch the show with his presentation, “Everybody Wins.”

This year’s trade show will feature over 140 booths, the traditional Kitchen Party, a New Product Showcase and Silent Auction, and an international slate of speakers covering a variety of key industry topics.

hort_east_showA pre-conference garden centre tour will be held Nov. 23. Included be will a tour of the new compost facilities operated by the Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission and a visit to an aquascape pond.

A Landscape Contractors Training Workshop will be held Monday, Nov. 23. This will include a workshop – “Working Smarter” – led by Jim Paluch, as well as workshops for landscape foreman led by the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and for managers led by The Beach Gardener.

Exam opportunities will be held for Certified Horticultural Technician (CHT), Certified Landscape Design (CLD) and Certified Landscape Professional (CLP) programs, for Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and for the International Society of Arborists (ISA). A CLD Portfolio workshop will be offered on Monday afternoon. Continuing education credits will be available for CHT, CLP, CLD and ISA certified individuals by attending the various seminars offered at HortEast.
