What will be the hot sellers in 2010?
Written by Dave Harrison
Oct.guelph_trials 19, 2009, Toronto — Retailers, landscape contractors, and growers can discover the trends in vegetables and plants that will make their 2010 spring sales blossom at this week’s Garden & Floral Expo at the Toronto Congress Centre.

Two 30-minute sessions, scheduled at noon on Oct. 20th and 21, will be presented by Rodger Tschanz, Trial Garden manager with the Department of Plant Agriculture at the University of Guelph.

Tschanz has been involved for years with the university’s trial gardens. This year’s trial season included garden and container evaluations, along with landscape plant trials.

Besides presentations taking place at the Garden & Floral Stage, attendees to the show can visit the New Products Showcase to view an innovative selection of plant varieties from the joint ornamental trial gardens sites at the University of Guelph and at the Milton office of Landscape Ontario.

veg_gardening “Since 2001, when I started evaluating new plants at the University of Guelph’s Ornamental Trial Garden, selections have dramatically improved in growth habit, colour and heat and disease tolerance. Improvements will continue to be made as breeders respond to environmental challenges and gardening fashions,” said Tschanz.

Admission to the Garden & Floral stage presentations is free, included with admission to the trade show.

The show hours are Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Garden & Floral Expo, sponsored by Landscape Ontario, is Canada’s fall buying show for the green and floral industries. Over 3,400 buyers will attend the expo, which showcases new products, recent plant and floral introductions and product demonstrations.
