Las Mercedes" will follow Dummen's established hygienic standards for cutting production beginning with the water filtration system.
June 5, 2009 — Dummen has enhanced its service to North American growers with the opening of a new greenhouse facility in El Salvador.

“Las Mercedes” is a state-of-the-art growing complex offering easy access to Dummen’s U.S. and Canadian customers.

The company researched the location in detail to find the ideal growing climate – high light, low humidity and good temperatures – for the highest quality cuttings. “Also, the proximity to two major airports allows flexibility in efficiently shipping to U.S. and Canadian customers, and for receiving our proprietary cultures from Europe,” said general manager Iris Schulz-Dummen.

Phase One construction of 23 acres is well under way with 250 workers onsite.

The first motherplants were planted Week 22/2009 and Dummen is scheduled to ship cuttings starting Week 35/2009.

Phase Two will add another 18 acres.

The steel greenhouse structures are designed by Gunter Dummen and imported from Europe. “Las Mercedes” will follow Dummen’s established hygienic standards for cutting production, and its talented staff of experienced growers and production managers will be instrumental in securing a superior start-up.

General managers Iris Schulz-Dummen and Simon Schulz lead the El Salvador team, and both bring experience from Dummen’s Canary Islands operation. Production managers Olaf Kunert and Jörg Kolvenbach, who bring experience from Dummen facilities in Ethiopia and Costa Rica, supply additional leadership.
