Priva’s automated control systems are used in horticulture and commercial buildings throughout the world.
June 3, 2009 — Priva is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. To celebrate its half-century in business, the company will be hosting many special events around the world to share its success and to thank those who made it possible.

The company was founded in 1959 in De Lier, Netherlands, as a supplier of oil-fuelled heaters for greenhouses. From this first step in horticultural climate control, Priva continued to invest in new technologies and innovation with a focus on managing resources.

In the mid-1970s, Priva created its first process computer for horticulture. By the early 1980s, the company took the expertise and products it was so well known for in the horticultural industry and expanded into building control systems.

It was also at that time that Priva opened its North American office. Located in the heart of the Niagara Region, Priva North America works with clients the across Canada, the United States and Mexico.

The 1959 HyLo Salamander was the company’s first commercial product.
Priva North America general manager Kornel Strzalkowski is not surprised by the company’s success and longevity. “Priva was built on the values of respect, involvement and results,” he explains. “When a company consistently treats its customers, suppliers and employees with those values, it is bound to succeed.”

While Holland remains close in terms of support and involvement, Strzalkowski sees great benefits in being located closer to the customers. “When we are closer to our customers, we can relate directly to the issues and concerns that may be uniquely North American in nature. The solutions that we provide to these concerns are therefore the most appropriate solutions.”

Priva is constantly looking for balance between ecological sustainability and economical solutions for its customers. This is achieved by consistently working to improve the conservation of valuable resources such as water, heat, air and labour through innovative control systems.
