May 11, 2009 – Aquathermat, a new system from Soleno Textiles combines heating and irrigation applications. Heating tubes warm up the water contained in the capillary mat while the reservoir layer brings uniform distribution of warm water. As a result of capillary action, the warm water is distributed to the growing media through the pot drainage holes, increasing the substrate temperature.
A shorter production time combined with the possibility of lowered room temperatures cut energy consumption by at least 45 per cent. It is also said to reduce water and fertilizer consumption by at least 50 per cent, controls runoff, and helps maintain ideal humidity levels.
Aquathermat won the Ornamental Horticulture Minister Award for innovation at the last fall’s Ornamental Hort Show in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.
