 Feb. 20, 2009 — Alternate energy and on-farm research tax credits will be the subject of timely presentations at a Flowers Canada Ontario workshop on Feb. 25. The sessions will be held at the Best Western Beacon Harbourside Inn in Jordan in the Niagara region.
In a session from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Dr. Fernando Preto will discuss “Biomass Combustion Technologies.” Included will be information on:
• What I need to know?
• How do I get the most “bang for the buck when buying fuel?”
• How do I avoid problems and off-site impacts?
Dr. Preto is a research scientist in advanced combustion technologies with Natural Resources Canada.
A presentation on “Energy Conservation and Funding” will follow from 11:30 to noon.
In the afternoon, Dr. Basu Gantotti, a CRA national technology sector specialist, will provide an “SR&ED Update” from 1 to 4 p.m. The Scientific Research and Experimental Development program is a federal tax incentive program, administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), that encourages Canadian businesses of all sizes, and in all sectors, to conduct research and development in Canada. It gives claimants cash refunds and/or tax credits for their expenditures on eligible R&D work done in Canada. Many greenhouses have had projects supported by the program.
While the sessions are free, there is a $10 fee for lunch.
