  The Ontario Legislature is used to
polling, though June 24th featured a non-political topic. On that day,
Pick Ontario partnered with Foodland Ontario to hand out cut flowers at
Queen’s Park. The crowd favourites – unofficially, but nonetheless by a landslide – appeared to be calla lilies
and gerbera daisies.
Other flowers given away included chrysanthemums, alstroemeria, lisianthus, roses, freesia and lilies, among others.
Pick Ontario, an FCO program, promotes buying more locally grown flowers.
Among attendees was Leona Dombrowsky, the Minister of Agriculture, Food
and Rural Affairs and a keen Pick Ontario supporter. Flowers Canada
Ontario president Andy Kuyvenhoven presented her with a beautiful
bouquet of fresh Ontario-grown flowers.
“Today’s event was a great success,” said Pick Ontario marketing
director Gary Gander. “Our goal was to showcase the extreme freshness
of locally grown flowers and plants, and more importantly, heighten
consumer awareness of the variety of flowers grown in Ontario.”
Plus, he added, “it’s great to brighten up their day with some flowers to put on their desk.”
