June 30, 2008, Rotterdam, The Netherlands — The 59th Zonta International Convention formed the backdrop on this past weekend for the naming of a brand new rose. International Zonta president Olivia Ferry joined Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister Maria van der Hoeven at the ceremony honouring the ‘Zonta+’ rose at the Rotterdam Doelen Concert and Congress Centre. The naming took place during the opening ceremony of this international women’s convention in the presence of 2,000 women from 67 countries.
 Zonta International is a global service and network organization, affiliated as an NGO to the United Nations and the Council of Europe.

The organization, with 35,000 women members worldwide, campaigns for women from a range of different cultures. The convention in Rotterdam is the largest women’s conference ever held in the Netherlands.
The ‘Zonta+’ rose symbolizes the ambition of Zonta International. The new bright yellow T-Hybrid rose has been developed by breeder Lex+, and has large buds and good durability. It is available all year round. ‘Zonta+’ roses are traded at the six FloraHolland flower auctions in the Netherlands and exported worldwide. It is expected that there will be increased demand for them from women worldwide, especially for International Women’s Day on in March.
The rose certainly played a key role at this year’s Zonta International Convention. The Dutch floriculture sector decorated the Rotterdam congress centre with thousands of roses in a variety of attractive arrangements.
