T he food safety initiatives of the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG) have gained a global audience.

An impressive two-minute video has been posted on the widely popular YouTube Internet site (www.youtube.com). It was produced by University of Guelph agricultural communication students, with support from the OGVG and The Ontario Greenhouse Alliance.

The OGVG has led a growerdriven food safety program since 1998 and was the first group to regulate food safety in North America. The OGVG believes it is not only important to grow, pack and market safe produce – it is also important to prove it and be verified by an accredited third party audit firm to ensure that growers, packers and marketers are following important food safety standards.

If they do not pass their yearly audit, they will no longer be licensed to grow, pack or market Ontario greenhouse vegetables. • www.ontariogreenhouse.com
