CFI awards first-time funding to Vineland

June 10, 2015, Vineland Station, Ont. — Vineland Research and Innovation Centre  (Vineland) has been awarded first-time research funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to provide growers with resources to produce high quality and competitive crops.

“This $614,280 award is an important recognition of Vineland’s innovative research in horticulture,” said Dr. Daryl Somers, Vineland’s director of applied genomics.

“Grants from the CFI program were awarded to 52 research institutions across Canada and we are proud to be part of this prestigious group.”

Through a valued collaborative partnership with the University of Toronto, Vineland will use the funding to investigate techniques to promote plant health through the suppression of pathogens or by enhancing plant immune response to support field and greenhouse crops.
